Settling in.
The first step into childcare: it’s all quite exciting and scary. Not just for children, but for parents and guardians too. That is why we feel it is important to take plenty of time to settle in. We call this the settling-in period. During this three-month period, we create a safe environment and build trust, as well as a good relationship between the child, their parents, and the pedagogic professionals. Every child is unique and has unique needs. Carry on reading to find out exactly how we do this and what our settling-in vision is.
Our vision.
With us, the child’s wellbeing always comes first. If a child needs a little more time to feel safe and secure, we will work with their parents to see what is needed to support the child in the best possible way. This requires good cooperation between parents and pedagogic professionals, to make sure every child has the space to settle in at their own pace and in their own way. Together, we can create a soft landing and a safe foundation from which the child can continue to develop.
Intake meeting.
We will invite you to an intake meeting before your child starts childcare with us. This meeting is usually with your child’s mentor. We will discuss practical things, but above all we are curious about who your child is. How does your child like to be comforted? What do they like to play with? What is their favourite cuddly toy? Of course, there is also plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Your child is more than welcome to come to this first meeting.
Settling in.
Then it’s time for the settling-in period. We usually start with a few short try-outs in the group. This allows your child to become familiar with the room, see who else is in the group, and get to know the pedagogic professionals in a calm manner.
Our professionals take the time to really watch, listen, and genuinely get to know your child. This is so we can respond accordingly during the settling-in period as well as after that - whether your child is new to childcare or moving on to a new group.
It’s helpful to practice some things at home, such as sleeping in a bed or drinking from a bottle. This is how we can make the start as enjoyable as possible together: for you and your child.
